Our staff frequently volunteer their time to assist with special events, local charities and fundraising. We also support a range of community and charity fundraising initiatives that our staff and members are proud to take part in.
Here are some of the ways in which Club Central has been helping the local community.
Blood Donation Drive
We donate our precious red stuff to the Red Cross throughout the year and are holding a special blood donation drive from June-August to try and collect as many donations as possible for the Club Central Red25 team. We encourage all members to consider signing up and giving the precious and life saving gift of blood. One blood donation can save 3 lives and 1 in 3 people will need some sort of blood related product in their life. If it’s not you, then think of your friends and family.
Carers Ruby Ball
Club Central Menai was the proud hosts of the Carer’s Support Service Ruby Ball, where Cheryl Koenig OAM, launched her book In My Blood to raise funds for unpaid carers in the community.
We were proud to donate $5,000 to the cause. Thanks to Principal Event Partner NAB and Event Sponsor AMP Advice as well as many other local businesses and individuals who supported the event to raise in excess of $20,000.
Biggest Morning Tea
Thanks to our generous staff who brought along a plate or platter of delicious treats for the Biggest Morning Tea. Collectively we raised in excess of $2,234 dollars across both clubs.
Menai Community ANZAC Day Service
We were proud to be co-host the Menai Community ANZAC Day service in 2019. Each year the event grows in popularity and demonstrates the importance placed on commemorating this important day to the Menai Community.
As well as the local community, thanks to the Sutherland Shire Business Chamber, local ANZAC Day Committee, local schools, Holy Family Choir, Menai Guitar School, Cliff Lewis Printing and Howl Around Productions for making the event possible.
Platform Nine Easter Collection
Our generous members and staff donated Easter goodies for children at Platform Nine, a local charity that provides a place for families with no where else to go.
Clean Up Australia Day
We held our second Clean Up event at Menai Conservation Reserve with 29 volunteers from Club Central members and staff, Project Youth, 3Bridges and Sutherland Shire Council’s Bushcare Group picking up a total of 18 bags of rubbish. That included over 30 milkcrates, old furniture, rusted car parts and a shopping trolley! Huge thanks to everyone who helped out on the day to make Menai sparkle!
Supporting Struggling NSW Farmers
With over $6,000 donated by patrons and staff, Club Central added to the amount and donated $19,000 to Rural Aid and Buy A Bale for struggling NSW Farmers.
We were thrilled that it went to six farming families in the Yass region of NSW. The farm pictured belongs to the Redmond family.
Stuffing & Stitching for a Cause
During Pink month in January 2019, staff volunteered their time to help stuff and stitch Zonta Breast Care cushions to help bring comfort to breast cancer patients. The small hand-made cushions that fit neatly under a patient’s arm post-surgery to protect sensitive scars and avoid accidental but painful knocks. A massive 200 cushions were made for local breast cancer patients. The cushions have been funded by Club Central for the past six years with an annual grant of $3,000 through its ClubsGRANTS program. The grant also funds the production of an information booklet for patients with information from trained Breast Care Nurses.
Kookaburra Kids Christmas Gift Wrapping
Some of our awesome staff gave up their time to help wrap gifts for the Kookaburra Kids Christmas party in December 2018. The kids receive a personally selected gift at a special picnic. Kookaburra Kids supports young people in families affected by mental illness. Several staff also volunteered at the picnic, manning the food station and helping spread Christmas cheer.
St Vincent De Paul Christmas Food Drive
For families struggling to make ends meet, Christmas can be a stressful time. Thanks to the generosity of members and staff we were able to donate enough Christmas food items to make over 150 Christmas hampers which were distributed in the Menai and Hurstville areas by St Vincent De Paul.
Our heartfelt thanks to those who made the donations as well as those who packed and distributed them.
White Ribbon Walk
Our Community Crew joined the thousands of other locals in Sutherland Shire for the White Ribbon Walk. Together we said NO to violence against women.
Our staff threw their support behind Movember and had a fantastic time taking Mo-selfies at our selfie station, as well as encouraging patrons to join in.
We collected donations and raised awareness of men’s health.
Sylvanvale Charity Golf Day
Several staff volunteered in their own time at the Sylvanvale Golf Day to help raise funds for this fantastic Shire charity. They assisted with setting up for the luncheon, selling raffle tickets and also making sure everyone had a drink!
Menai Community Bushfire thank you
Along with the entire Menai community, we said thank you to our emergency services personnel who came from near and far to help when bushfires threatened our homes in April 2018.
We were a proud sponsor of the community thank you event held in Parc Menai and provided free airbrush tattoos, face painting and giant inflatable fun.
